Plank & Muntin
The Porch House is one of only a handful properties in Shropshire with Plank and Muntin walls. By coincidence another example is in the shop across the road. Even more unusual some of these were originally outside walls.
Plank and muntin walls are constructed by large oak beams typically 200mm x 200mm (8 inches x 8 inches) as a frame with oak panels in between. The whole wall is very solid but uses a huge amount of timber so must have been very costly.
Even more remarkable is that one of the Plank and Muntin walls has the faint outline of a medieval pattern painted on the planks, presumably to brighten up the rather “dull” wood.
